Some Settling May Occur

A commodity product, machine packed. It’s not quite a lie, but it’s not quite the truth either. Or at least it’s a phrase that covers up the truth.

“Some settling may occur.” It lives on the edge of acceptability. It sets your expectations. It says, “get ready to be disappointed.”

So who’s settling? The consumer. For a weak product, and probably a lie.

Imagine if instead, the product exceeds expectations without lowering them first. No need for a disclaimer; the product simply delights. Then you don’t have to worry about disappointment. You are so far ahead of the level of acceptability, that you don’t worry about failure.

Consistently contributing more value than you extract eliminates the need for disclaimers, excuses, and half-truths.
