Heartbeat of MIT: Soundscapes facilitated by Michael Boezi
This session will be a scavenger hunt in sound. You will make a soundscape of MIT using recordings you make, and the final project will be uploaded to SoundCloud. We’ll also explore what tools to use, and share our best practices for making and stitching together sounds into a story.
We’ll start by considering the possibilities and limitations of sound. How do we think about it? What are the challenges of a time-based medium? How is our point-of-view reflected in the rhythms of the world we capture?
Next we’ll explore MIT and record the sounds that we see as part of its personality, or important in the story of the place. After our “harvesting” of sounds, we’ll bring them back, share our findings, and begin to put our pieces together. Final projects may have elements of poems, interviews, sound art and documentary.
