Michael’s latest LP is called “No Love Songs, Vol. 2,” featuring some of Boston’s best musicians as collaborators: Acclaimed Americana artist Bob Bradshaw (co-writer on Blind Spot and One Sunday in Autumn), Andrew Stern (Mark Erelli Band, Dennis Brennan Band), Dave Brophy (Will Dailey, Alisa Amador), James Rohr (The Blue Ribbons), Andy Santospago, Britt Connors, and Joe McMahon.
Comparisons: Billy Bragg, Andrew Bird, Kurt Vile, Dire Straits, Mountain Goats, Lord Huron, R.E.M, Johnny Marr, Pete Townshend, and Richard Thompson.
“My pick for this week is the just released ‘No Love Songs Volume 2.’ Singer/songwriter/guitarist Michael Boezi and a bunch of fine musicians bring us a great collection of songs about the unfortunate state of the world.
Despite the subject matter, which is presented through great lyrics and excellent instrumentation, the album is not depressing, because it’s a perfect example of how art is essential in hard times, of how we can work through chaos by using our creativity.” — Aaron Smith (source: BlueSky)
Michael Boezi brings the energy and ethos of the post-punk era to the modern era with thought-provoking original songs that invite progressive, collectivist, and non-confrontational reflection as an antidote to the years of programming and propaganda we all endure.
“Resistance and change often begin in art.” – Ursula LeGuin
No Love Songs, Vol. 2 covers a wide array of topics, including:
- how life goes on amid daily horrors,
- how silence isn’t a great strategy,
- how art & music are changing,
- how billionaires are bleeding us,
- how old habits and ideas imprison us,
- how advocating change is depleting,
- and how no one’s coming to save us.
We are all in this together. Individualism is our common enemy.

Performing
I perform regularly in the metro Boston area in a busking, “electric folk” Billy Bragg style – and in a band format too, either as a trio (with bass & drums) or a lap steel added for an Americana feel. Here’s is a sample of my live sound:

It’s not you, it’s capitalism. Climate change, systemic racism, economic inequality, and other issues plague our culture. Media controls and distorts our emotions as well as our response. Our best ideas are diminished into binary choices, made subservient to simplistic narratives. Only a human, empathetic expression might change someone’s perspective.
Overarching themes:
- How to create the conditions for change and fight for our own survival.
- Opting out of capitalism’s grip and leaving behind past versions of ourselves.
- How to take care of one another and be patient with each others’ unlearning.
- Staying human as technology takes over and confronting our own mortality.
