(Art)iculate

Rethink, redefine, reimagine. The current system doesn’t work (obviously) – it’s time to rebuild something new in its place. This is up to us, artists like you and me – we’ll do so with humanism, empathy, inclusion, and equality. There’s a lot more to come on this as it develops, but think of (ART)ICULATE as the manifesto and the operating instructions for a leaderless collective… including you!

Rethink, redefine, reimagine

There’s more detail to come on this as it develops, but it’s structured around 3 things:

1. A set of songs (mine and yours)

For my part, I’d like to move away from observational commentary into imagining new worlds. This is how we create progressive change, redesigning society and the systems that govern it. In auditing my current catalog, I do this “imagining” a lot – except that it’s usually depicting dystopian futures. Here a good example of that:

  • Last Song (Live 4/8/26): https://patreon.com/posts/last-song-live-155187333

Instead, I’d like to show what the other side of positive change looks like. With this project, I invite you to do the same. Not just musicians, but artists of all types – writers, filmmakers, poets, painters, comedians, designers, etc.

2. A platform strategy (for all of us)

Every major app and platform is compromised. True human connection represents a threat to their power, so they actively work against us, keeping us muted and isolated.

We need to embrace smaller spaces and leave legacy systems, letting them fade into irrelevance (e.g. MySpace, Facebook, Twitter – which still exist, but as zombies). I’ve been auditioning new platforms and new features with an eye towards utility for us as artists, you can follow my reporting in this collection:

  • Platform Audit: New Alternatives for Streaming & Social: https://patreon.com/collection/2140582

Using Patreon is a part of this platform strategy. It offers a few specific features that you can’t really get in other distribution platforms – especially a new thing they just introduced this month:

  • Why Patreon? https://patreon.com/posts/why-patreon-158766730

3. A leaderless collective of artists – including you

This project is not about me – it’s a leaderless movement with a call to action. It asks artists of all types to not just participate, but to draw in others as well. It will be driven by a set of core ideas, but leaves implementation up to a collective of optimists.

  • Preamble to a Directional Shift: https://patreon.com/posts/directional-shift-157887895

Each output will be unique because it will be YOURS. What I hope is that we will generate dozens/hundreds of new visions for the future by exploring it in a variety of art forms. Thousands of artists producing everything from individual pieces to larger projects. Writing new narratives, composing new anthems, creating new landscapes, and delivering new visions of the future.

This work can only be done by artists. We are more important than ever.

So… (Art)iculate!

As a working title, (Art)iculate seems to capture all of the above: 1) We’re articulating a new vision, 2) connecting in more open and accepting spaces, 3) each in our own way.

I think of (Art)iculate as the manifesto and operating instructions for a leaderless collective. I’ll keep writing in this space, developing the concept – but it needs your involvement as well. Not only to help hone the vision of (Art)iculate, but most importantly – for you to MAKE ART TO REMAKE, REDEFINE, & REIMAGINE.
