This is the seventh show of my monthly residency at The Square Root in Roslindale, where local songwriters and performers present original songs in a stripped-down, low-key format. The focus is on songcraft and community – bringing people together in a safe, intimate setting for a set of enjoyable evenings once/month.
Doors at 8pm, Michael at 8:30, Jill at 9:30.
JU$T JILL is a hip-hop artist and one-half of the female rap duo, B&B, which stands for ‘Brains and Bars’. Born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, JU$T JILL has been rapping since 2013.
She is also affiliated with the Cambridge Hip-Hop Collective, a non-profit organization that holds local hip-hop cyphers in Central Square, Cambridge, also known as the ‘Bridgeside Cypher’. The Cambridge Hip-Hop Collective’s cyphers are a safe space for artists and musicians to be able to step out of their comfort zone without feeling judged or critiqued. They encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to join their cyphers.
JU$T JILL makes sure she stands out in the Boston rap scene with her originality and creativity in her music, from nostalgic 90’s hip-hop to parody rap songs. Her positive and uplifting style of music promotes self-love, empowerment, family, and friendship.
About the series: Each night of the residency, I perform a solo set of original songs – and feature a guest songwriter/performer to perform a set too. These guests are curated from the diverse creative talent we have here in the local Boston music scene – some of the best and/or most promising local songwriters.
[put “for Jill” in the notes and I’ll pass it along!]
