Principles of The Glass Box Project

In my last post, I introduced the Glass Box Project to you with a manifesto of sorts. I want to help non-fiction authors succeed. The opportunity is out there—it’s your for the taking. I can help guide you.

A few requirements up front. In order for this to work, you have to accept a few simple principles. If you don’t believe in the following, then this method is not going to work for you:

Glass Box Project

  • Achieving success an author in today’s world is completely different than it was even 10 years ago.
  • The rules have changed, and the old system doesn’t work any more.
  • If you play by the old rules, you are not going to be successful.
  • Authors and their respective audiences are unique. No cookie cutter solutions.
  • Good content is table stakes. You can’t put lipstick on a pig.
  • Content is connection.
  • Content is more than just your book.
  • Authors need to think like a publisher to succeed in today’s world.
  • Authors are entrepreneurs, even if they don’t think they are.
  • Success requires work. Yes to getting help, no to proxies.
  • There is enough success to go around. Authors help other authors.
  • We are stronger together; we will learn from each other.

These are a set of principles more than ground rules. I have no idea how this will turn out, or if it will be successful at all. But if you share these values, I’d really like for you to join me. I’m going to be offering my expertise, and I hope that you will do that in return. I’ll set the pace of the project—you can follow along with me, or just watch. If it works, the end result will be something that will benefit tons of authors and their respective readers. Let’s see how it goes!
