Student Projects, Spring 2017

teaching, college, content strategy, EmersonNow that the spring semester is over, I thought I’d share my students’ work over the term. In my class at Emerson College, students learn first hand about content strategy by actively applying it to a “live project” of their choice. Starting from zero, they conceive and build a website to teach others something that they know very well. They get experience in website design, blogging, and social media. In addition to strategizing, designing a project plan, doing research, and measuring their results, they also learn how to organize and optimize digital content for maximum impact.

This group was fantastic. They had amazing ideas and classroom discussions were animated. But most of all, I liked that they were supportive of one another. In my view of marketing (and business in general), this spirit of generosity and the desire to help will serve them well in their future careers.

One of my students was recognized for her work in this course – Emily Neiss won a faculty award, and received a scholarship from Bookbuilders of Boston. Her project (listed below) is focused on helping aspiring authors survive the “slush pile.” She has first-hand experience in this area, reading and assessing “cold” submissions, so she was in a great position to help.

Here’s a list of everyone’s projects, so you can see their work for yourself:
