Michael Boezi: Writer, Educator, Musician

I’m working on one of these things right now:

Songwriting

Latest release: Knocks – it’s the 13th in a series of singles that I’ve been releasing since Apr 2022. These songs are all available in the streaming platforms (and Bandcamp of course). While this has been going on, I’ve been pulling back the curtain with a set of “process shots” on YouTube & TikTok.

Performing

I performed 39 shows in 2023, a new PR. This has been mainly in two formats: A busking, “electric folk” Billy Bragg style and a small combo format (drums and bass). Come see me at an upcoming show. I had planned to pull back a little in Dec and Jan to focus on songwriting, but turns out I booked a bunch new shows. Oops!

Publishing

I am a partner in a small upstart publishing company called Lived Places Publishing. We are building a series of collections around interdisciplinary topics such as Disability Studies, Forced Migration Studies, Carceral Studies, Queer and LGBTQ+ Studies, and more. We have 15 collections so far and have published our first 23 books, with 80+ more in development. Here’s how this fits into all the other things I’m doing.

Consulting

I run a strategy and training business called Control Mouse Media, helping my clients build their credibility and attract an audience using a cohesive content strategy. I do a mix of writing, production, and training in all modes of content creation and delivery. Most requested services: SEO, podcasting, online course development.

Fundraising

I serve as a board member and volunteer at a small organization called Boston For All. We are an activist group that runs a series of community events that function as fundraisers. Since 2017, we have raised over $100,000 in support of immigration justice, food insecurity, and abortion access. 100% of all money raised goes straight to the nonprofit organizations we support: The Brigid Alliance, La Colaborativa, Community Servings, The Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network (BIJAN), Redes en Acción Venezuela, the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA), and other organizations doing the important on-the-ground work in our local community.

Teaching

I teach a graduate course at Emerson College called Fundamentals of Content Strategy, which is now a core course in the Content Strategy Online Certificate Program. It is a project-based course that I designed, based on the stuff that I do in practice with my own clients. I’m not teaching in Spring 2024, but I aim to be back in the summer or fall.

Podcasting

Marketing Without the Marketing is about respectful and ethical ways to build an online audience. Hit a milestone with my 200th (!) episode: The Digital Representation of You. I’m not really publishing new episodes, instead I’m really focusing a lot more energy on songwriting, performing, and recording.

Derek Sivers came up with this concept (a “now” page), and my page is included in his collection.
