- I learned how to structure and sequence what I know into a coherent flow. What’s the first thing you need to know about content strategy? OK, now what’s the second thing? How do we build upon each topic, step by step? And how do you create a 14-week story arc? Sure, there were things I would have done differently. I’ll apply those to the next time I teach the course.
- I was inspired by my students. I know that sounds cliché, but seeing the energy and creativity that they each put into their projects left me in awe. They collaborated and supported one another. They debated and challenged one another. And best of all, they created things that were worthwhile – that make the world a little better. See for yourself below.
At the end of the term, they each presented their final projects to the class. All I could do was to stand at the back of the room and glow with pride at what they achieved.
Here’s a list of their projects, so you can see for yourself.
- Lindsay Marshall / Lindsay’s Untitled Rock Mag
- Annemarie Tompsen / Beauty in the Bypass
- Jenny Martin / Study Abroad Survival Guide
- Shelby Nathanson / Things He Says
- Jennie Eckilson / Excel for English Majors
- Abby Davis / Postmarked Heart
- Jordan Sherman / A Pretty Professional
- Rachel Sutherland / Take A Breath
- Natalia Locatelli / Writing and Worldbuilding
- Elizabeth Canon / Unconventional Bride
- Lauren Cepero / Purple is the New Black
- Lechetze Lewis / Theatre District
If you want to match these up against the goals for my course at the beginning of the term, see my post, Creating a Learning Environment. This grad-level course was conducted as a live project, so they built each of these sites over a 4-month period.
