2012: Welcome to Our Year

After a nice respite over the holidays, I’m happy to be back at my desk. Why? Because 2012 is quite likely to be our year at Flat World Knowledge. The year that it breaks wide open. The year that we “crack the code” on making open publishing sustainable.

We will publish our biggest spring list in the next few months. More instructors than ever will use our materials to better their classroom experience, and many more of them will take full advantage of our open license to customize our books.

We will reach a record number of students this year. We will lower the cost of their education. Let me say that again: WE WILL LOWER THE COST OF THEIR EDUCATION. We will not keep success out of their reach with price barriers. We will make a real impact for real students.

And behind the scenes, we will start to do content differently. The way we acquire content, the way we develop it, the way we produce it, the way we deliver it.

Customers will have more ways to interact with our content. They will have more analytics around its usage. In short, more control over what goes on in their classrooms.

Count on quality content from us, as always. But it’s merely the starting point, not the end goal. As soon as it’s in your classroom, it’s yours. Have fun. You are now the hero, not us.

Stay tuned, this is is going to be a fun year for all who participate: Students, instructors, authors, and all of your friends at Flat World Knowledge.
